Mind, Art, Experience: Artist Talk With Jennifer Shahade

Attend a special artist talk by chess champion Jennifer Shahade as she reflects on her pair of collaborative works featured in Mind, Art, Experience: Celebrating 10 Years of Chess & Culture in Saint Louis. The first, Naked Chess, is inspired by the famous Julian Wasser photograph of the artist and chess player Marcel Duchamp playing chess against the artist and author Eve Babitz. The second, Not Particularly Beautiful, shares examples of negative comments she has received from anonymous online posts as well as empowering thoughts and negative comments received by female viewers reacting to the work. Jennifer will also be discussing and signing her new book Chess Queens: The True Story of a Chess Champion and the Greatest Female Players of All Time available for purchase at Q Boutique, the gift shop at the World Chess Hall of Fame.

Jennifer Shahade is an Olympic chess champion, a woman grandmaster, poker pro, speaker and author. She is a two-time United States women’s chess champion and was the first female to win the US Junior Open. Jennifer works to bring more women, girls, and gender minorities into the game through programs including US Chess Women, the Madwoman’s Book Club, and a cross-cultural chess club with girls from all the world, from Kenya to Colombia. She is also a board member of the World Chess Hall of Fame.
